Congresswoman Capps Receives Susan Wysocki Leadership Award
Lois Capps, RN, who represents the 23rd District of California in the US House of Representatives (and who won re-election on November 2), was recently honored with the Susan Wysocki Award for Leadership. Congresswoman Capps could not attend the NPWH conference held in Palm Desert, California, in mid-October, but she sent a letter to her friends at NPWH. In the letter, Ms Capps stated, “I am sorry I couldn’t join you in person today, but I wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude for this award. It is through your incredible advocacy on behalf of nurses and patientsthat we have been able to achieve some important milestones in Congress.” She went on to discuss how newly enacted legislation has helped women’s health causes, as well as the educational needs of nurses and nurse practitioners. She closed the letter by saying “On a personal note, receiving an award from fellow nurses is always an added honor, so I thank you again for this recognition. I wish you all the best at this year’s conference and look forward to continuing our work together.”
