NPWH Provides Feedback to the AMA on its Scope of Practice Data Series
The NPWH and a number of other organizations have responded to the American Medical Association’s request for feedback about the Nurse Practitioners module of the AMA Scope of Practice Data Series by stating they “do not accept” the AMA’s attempt to change the perceptions of NP practice as anything other than fully qualified professionals working within a legally established scope of practice. Their response points to a multitude of studies demonstrating the safety and high quality of care provided by nurse practitioners which were disregarded in the module. It also points out the shortcomings of the term “limited license provider,” which is viewed as misleading. Nurse practitioners are fully licensed professionals who practice within their legal authority and who have established a reputation for providing safe, effective, high quality care to their patients.
