Macy Foundation Recommends NPs and PAs be Given More Authority to Deliver Primary Care

In January 2010, the Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation convened an invitational conference to address the complex issues concerning how to strengthen the primary care system in the United States. The Conference: Who Will Provide Primary Care and How Will They Be Trained? was co-chaired by Linda Cronenwett, Ph.D., R.N., FAAN, University of North Carolina School of Nursing and Victor J. Dzau, M.D, CEO of Duke University Health System.

Participants developed a set of three conclusions with 12 recommendations.  To view a copy of the the Executive Summary, please go to http://www.macyfoundation.org/documents/jmf_ChairSumConf_Jan2010.pdf

A more detailed account of the proceedings, along with the background papers, will be included in a monograph to be published by the Macy Foundation in the next few months.
